Diet and detox go together like summer and bathing or autumn and harvest. In all cultures, spiritual and physical cleansing is practiced in different fasting traditions. The latest scientific findings, for which the 2017 Nobel Prize for Medicine was awarded, support the knowledge that food restriction (the new word for fasting) rejuvenates the body, removes cellular waste and keeps it healthy.

Fatigue, listlessness and allergies become foreign words if you use this herbal detox treatment over and over again. The good thing about it: you can do it alongside your professional activity! In just 7 days you can free yourself from old burdens, normalize your weight and feel like new mentally too! This cure is very suitable for relieving the metabolism and changing mood in every season of the year.

According to Ayurveda, accumulated metabolic waste, known as ama, unprocessed substances, should be removed periodically. Especially during the transition of the seasons you should relieve the body and clear it out to support a good start into the new time period.

This cure combines 2 elements: the relief of the digestive tract through light nutrition and the activation of the body’s own detoxification through traditional Ayurvedic medicinal herbs , which can be used in the form of herbal tablets as food supplements without spending a lot of time in everyday life. General practitioner and Ayurveda doctor Dr. Schachinger has prepared a “package” for you that contains all the ingredients for a successful detox.

Recipe for preparing the spice decoction

Every day in the morning

  • 1 tablespoon (1 part of 7 parts) of the spice mixture in
  • 1 liter of water with
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice for about 5 – 10 minutes

After cooking, strain through a sieve, fill into a thermos flask and drink alternately with hot water throughout the day, especially during and after meals.

If the decoction tastes too intense in this dosage, then only use ½ to 1 teaspoon instead of 1 tablespoon of the spice mixture.

If something is left of the spice mixture for the herbal detox, you can use this leftover to season vegetables, rice, etc.

If you are unable to drink the spice mixture, you can use ginger as an alternative. Either boil 2-3 slices of fresh ginger root with 1 liter of water or use half a teaspoon of ginger powder instead of the fresh ginger. Strain after boiling for about 10 minutes.

Time schedule for 7 days

Get up early , between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m.

Drink lemon and honey water (stir 1 teaspoon each of honey and fresh lemon juice into lukewarm water), prepare the spice decoction and pour it into a thermos.

If possible about 1/2 hour before breakfast: take 3 tablets MA 1010 with a little water. Light breakfast: fruit smoothie, fresh fruit juice, crispbread or porridge. Then drink 1 glass of decoction of spices.

If possible about 1/2 hour before lunch: take 3 tablets MA 579 with a little water. Light lunch: cereals, vegetables, legumes or pasta.

Then drink 1 glass of decoction of spices.

If possible about 1/2 hour before dinner: take 3 tablets MA 2 with a little water. Dinner: soup made from vegetables, cereals, legumes or sweet cereal porridge.

Then drink 1 glass of decoction of spices.

Before going to sleep: take 2 tablets MA 505 with a little water. Bed rest 10 p.m.

Diet during the herbal detox

These nutritional recommendations support the breakdown of Ama (metabolic waste products). Literally translated, Ama means something like “the undigested”. According to Ayurveda, ama always arises when the digestive power and metabolism cannot cope with the supply of food. Ama’s therapy therefore usually consists of a light diet and strengthening the digestive power with medicinal herbs and spices. In order to break down the ama in the most important body tissues, this 7-day cure is recommended here as an introduction.

Avoid the following foods during the cure: Fried, deep-fried, fatty, sour, pure raw vegetables, raw cereal muesli, no fish, no meat, cheese, curd cheese, yoghurt and other dairy products, eggs, sweets.

Examples of recommended foods: pasta, rice, millet, quinoa, leafy vegetables, carrots, zucchini, broccoli, beets, mung beans, vegetable and grain soups, compote, apple and pear puree; Rice milk, almond milk etc.

Please also avoid: alcohol, cigarettes, cigars, coffee (if you consume a lot of coffee, reduce this to a minimum), black tea, green tea and energy drinks.

Before breakfast: To stimulate the metabolism, drink a glass of warm water with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and 1-2 teaspoons of good honey about 1/2 hour before breakfast to stimulate the metabolism . The honey must not get too hot (not over 40 °). The drink should taste pleasant.

Breakfast: Can be canceled entirely. Otherwise, you can drink fruit smoothies or freshly squeezed fruit juices. You can also have crispbread, rusks, toasted bread with honey or jam. If you don’t want to lose weight, a warm, cooked cereal porridge or boiled oat flakes refined with raisins, cooked fruit, desiccated coconut etc.

Lunch: At noon you can have a light, warm meal. You can eat your fill. Please pay attention to your personal saturation point. It protects you from overeating. Eat in a quiet atmosphere if possible and sit for 10-15 minutes after eating.

Dinner: can be canceled entirely. If you are very hungry, soups made from cereals, legumes and vegetables are recommended. Dinner should be eaten before 6 p.m. if possible.

Between meals : Eating should be limited to the three main meals. If you are very hungry, fresh fruit juices or 1 teaspoon of honey are allowed.

Hot water: Ayurveda uses hot water to promote the metabolism and to flush out ama . The water is drunk every half hour and in small sips. It should still be hot, but of course you shouldn’t burn yourself. The amount of water depends on the thirst. Don’t force yourself to drink a certain amount. Usually about half a cup is enough.

The hot water is an important part of the regimen. We recommend boiling the water for about 5-10 minutes. The taste improves and it penetrates the body cells better. You can keep the boiled water in a thermos bottle.

After the 7 days you can slowly build up your diet again. You can keep the hot water, although you can now take it every hour or every two hours.

Medicinal herbs

In Maharishi Ayurveda there are various dietary supplements made from medicinal herbs in tablet form that support certain organ systems. In this cure, preparations are mainly used that stimulate the normal function of the body’s own detoxification organs. The remedies are applied according to the biorhythm, so that the organs that are particularly active during the time of intake are supported according to the “organ clock”.

You start the day in the morning by taking herbal tablets, which primarily cleanse the connective tissue and stimulate the lymphatic flow. During this Kapha period of the day, the slightly warming MA 1010 (Ama Clean) tablets are used to activate the metabolism and to cleanse joints, blood and connective / adipose tissue. Over 20 selected medicinal herbs ensure gentle cleansing of the whole body from the inside.

Before lunch , during the pitta period of the day, the pitta organs must be liver, gall bladder and pancreas

are stimulated to eliminate the ama associated with pitta. The liver remedy MA 579 contains over 14 medicinal herbs with the necessary bitter substances to really get the liver detoxification going. This has a positive effect on the digestive process, but also on the skin and eyes. And: our emotions are “smoothed out”.

The late afternoon is dominated by Vata and during this time we mainly support detoxification via the kidneys. This corresponds to the Apana Vata principle, which rules the excretory organs. With the MA2 tablets we supply the body with the energies it needs to sustainably strengthen the excretory and sexual organs.

Before going to sleep , the body is given an Ayurvedic classic with the preparation MA 505 (Triphala with rose). Triphala is THE remedy to aid detoxification through the digestive system. At the same time, according to Ayurvedic understanding, Triphala nourishes all body tissues and supplies them with regenerating vital energy overnight.

In addition to the ready-made preparations in tablet form, which you take before the 3 meals and before bed, you drink a decoction of spices after each meal as a digestive drink, which properly stimulates the digestive fire “Agni” and thus breaks down the light food particularly well during the cure. This digestive drink (spice decoction) is prepared in the morning for the whole day, ideally stored in a thermos and drunk during or after every meal. The digestive spices such as cumin, coriander and ginger ensure that the toxins dissolved by the herbal preparations are processed in the digestive tract as quickly as possible and without unpleasant side effects such as headaches, abdominal pain, fatigue or flatulence and then excreted.

Regarding nutrition , please follow the recommendations on pages 2 and 3. Two of these recommendations are particularly important:

  1. drink sufficient amounts of hot water. The water should really be drunk every half hour if possible! The most important rule: drink as much and as warmly as PLEASANT!
  2. eat more legumes (lentils or mung beans) during this cure to ensure that the body is supplied with valuable vegetable proteins. They are the basic building blocks for happiness hormones and messenger substances in the body, which decisively improve well-being and sustainably strengthen the immune system.

If you go to work during this detox and cannot get a light warm lunch there, you can simply bring lunch to the boil in the morning and take it to work in a thermos. On our homepage you will find a few suggestions for cooking under recipes.
